A Positive Voice Can Make All The Difference

mentor

So the other day i was really down.  My job is making me feel like shit.   My parents are making me feel like shit.  Society is making me feel like shit.   So, I was just all-around feeling like shit.

So, I called Lifeline.  Which people listen to me,  WHEN YOU ARE DOWN CALL LIFELINE!  THEY ARE AMAZING.   Id rather have you call lifeline and talk it out than go through the day feeling too depressed or anxious to live.

So I started listing off everything like a crazy person:

~ grew up gay in Ohio and have never had friends

~had to work full time during college to pay for college, and thusly totally missed out on the college experience and internships because i was busy working full time on top of school

~ Have been traveling around the world since graduation looking for a place to land…and haven’t found it

~my new job with sucks and doesn’t pay well, and my parents yelling at me constantly telling me to grow up

~ And how I’m applying to grad school but am worried about finances and if it will even pay off.

And I swear to God she is like….. “sweetie, you need to slow down”.   So I slow down, take a breath and let her talk for a bit as I cool off.   She starts talking about how the economy is different now than it was for my parents.   Its normal to be 26 and lost in life these days.  She then tells me its also partly me:  She said, and I swear to you I loved this…she was like, “Look I can tell just from talking to you that you’re very smart.  Probably smarter than most people.   And Im sure way smarter than the people you work with since you’re working in retail”… “And you need to understand that small-time jobs and small-time people will never click with you,  because you’re meant for more”.

I literally was filled with warmth.   Someone actually on my side?  Someone who actually believes I can do something with my life?    IS THAT WHAT HAVING SUPPORT IN LIFE FEELS LIKE????

I just relaxed in my seat  ( I was driving when I called because I just didn’t want to be at home).   I slowed down, went down some side streets and just smiled.   Hearing something nice….oh my god.  it was amazing!

Then she said, So what are you wanting to go to school for?  And I said Creative Writing.  Then she said, “Well you know, maybe you could find a compromise?   Get a day job and just write on the weekends as a hobby?”.   This made me kind of annoyed because is this something I hear from everyone…just another GET YOUR HEAD OUT OF THE CLOUDS comment.   But I tried to let her keep talking….but I just couldn’t. I had to tell her I actually feel because nobody else ever lets me.

So I said, well If I do that, how do I control this dying feeling I have inside?  And she was like… what do you mean?

So I told her that the idea of me not being able to live my dreams gives me a feeling like my intensities are being ground inside me.   Like Im suffocating.   Like theres no point in living.

I want to write.  I want to inspire people!  I want to motivate people to want to continue living!  I want to make stories that are full of adventure, friendship, love, and overcoming obstacles that seem impossible…. until the end when you find out that hard work, dedication and a bit of teamwork can accomplish anything.   Growing up movies and books were my only friends.  After being called faggot all day at school, after the teachers would pretend like they didn’t see kids throwing things at me, after coming home and having my parents ask me why I had no friends, I could run up to my room and watch a movie or read a book.  They were my friends.   They were the ones who taught me about life.   I could see people who were like me, in situations that seemed hopeless…but you know what?  Somehow they always managed to conquer evil.  To win in the end.  To accomplish goals that seemed impossible!   And along the way they always made friends, had an adventure, and came out better people in the end.   I want to be able to give that to other people.

The she was silent for a few seconds… and then said:

“Sweetie, then you have no choice but to be a writer.   I’m sorry about what I said before… you’re dedicated, you know what you want, and you’re intentions are genuine.  You don’t have a choice but to chase your dreams”.

The biggest smile ever came across my face.  I just thought, FINALLY SOMEONE UNDERSTANDS

Then she continued, “You know you may never make six figures though right? You may never accomplish wealth…”  And I was like, “Look, If I was happy and doing what I loved and was helping people, Id be fine living in a little apartment for the rest of my life, because Id have happiness, and self-worth.  Which is way better than money”.

Then she just laughed and said, “Honey, you will be very successful in life.  You are so genuine and want to write for all the right reasons.  You should also do public speaking,  you’re great at it”…

Then I was like, ” UUUGGGHHH I’d lllllllooooooovvvvvveeeee to do TED talks you have no idea!”

She was like, “You know what, I really like you!   Here’s what you need to do.  Stop talking about your life to people in your hometown.  You’re better than them and you know what, jealousy will probably always make then hate you….and continue put you and your dreams down.  Normal people don’t chase their dreams because there afraid.  So they settle.  Don’t ever let them influence your life”.

I can’t even tell you how much that talk meant to me.    It just goes to show how much a positive voice in your life can change everything.

So, here I am, refreshed, rejuvenated, and ready to fight the fight.

Never give up, never surrender!

When Life Continues To Give You Nothing But Lemons

lemon

Oh life, you fickle little fuck. You just never know when to quit do you? So, Im working in retail right now. Which means this week (being Thanksgiving) should be the busiest of the year. And yet, Ive had 2 shifts cancelled this week. And I had a shift cut last week….

So now my parents are giving me a bunch of shit. Telling me what a failure I am. Being a 26 year old, living at home, who can’t even hold down a minimum wage job.

I talked to my boss yesterday, asking if Ive been a bad employee or if Ive been doing anything wrong, and she said no. It was just bad timing because she thought we were going to get a lot of shipment these last two weeks, and we didn’t. So she had to cut shifts.

Which still sucks, but at least I know I still have a job….

Still, doesn’t help me talking to my parents. They’re convinced Im a failure. And you know what? They’re kind of right. Im 26. Ive never had a “big boy job”. I can’t seem to ever find love. Nor can I manage to find long-lasting happiness.

This morning I told my dad I had a shift canceled and he responded with, “You don’t even have a job….”. I had to walk away and go back to my room because I was going to cry.

I have depression. I also have severe anxiety. They ruin my life. Times like these only add to the problem.

If I believed in God. In a higher power, and an afterlife, I would have killed myself by now. But you know what? There is no God. This is it people. There are no pearly gates waiting for us on the other side. Therefore, when the fake God above throws you nothing but lemons, you have no choice but to turn them into lemonade.

lemon1

Because we have no choice.

Im not going to give up. Im not going to believe that Im stupid. That I’m lazy. That I’m not worth things better than what I have right now. Because I know that isn’t true. I know I work hard. I know I really try. Have I burnt almost every bridge Ive ever crossed? Have I ruined so many situations because of my insecurities, low self-esteem, and belief that I wasn’t good enough? Yes, absolutely. Have I been too afraid to really try to live the life Ive always wanted? Yes.

But that all changes people.

IT HAS TO CHANGE

So look lemons you dirty bastards, Its lemonade time!

I have been accepted for a Creative Writing Masters at the University of Denver.   So I know someone wants me.   On top of that, Ill find out December 2nd if I’m going to Harvard.    Im playing with some weak cards here and I understand that.

I know that with my history of constant failures, trying to pick up the pieces will be hard.   because who wants to take the chance on the underdog?   But, something’s gotta’ give at some point.   Think of celebrities like Kathy Griffin, or Sheldon from Big Bang Theory (Who is actually like 44 years old).  Some people don’t find success until later in life  (I really hope at least SOMETHING goes well for me before 44…. but hey, trying is all I can do).

I mean, hey, I got through all of last year, and I’m here…..

Keep trying, I know I will!

Donald Trump Is Not My President

house

Standing up and fighting for your rights to live in a free country is an extremely important thing.

Right now I’m stuck living back in my hometown in Ohio.  The trash dump, redneck, backwoods of the USA.  Everyone I work with voted for Trump.   You will see people with giant Trump signs still in their yard (one man even string Christmas lights around his so it can now be seen from space).  The democrats here are still conservative by New England standards.    Basically there are two types of people here:

1.)  Crazy Trump supporters who just can’t wait for the Muslim registry to begin

2.) White democrats who don’t actually Trump enough to stand up to him  (Life must be so easy to be a straight, white, Christian huh?)

But I want to make it known that Im against Trump.  Granted, my one voice may be pointless. But perhaps multiple voices can come together and make change.

house1

Now for any Tump supporter I ask you, why did you vote for him?   (Honestly, feel free to respond in the comments section).

With all the racist, sexist, and cruel things he has said?

With his VP being an insane homophobe?

With Steve Bannon, a complete neo-nazi, on his cabinet?

With his crazy Twitter rants that seem more fit for a spoiled 7 year old?

His financial scandals?

Russia admitting they worked with the campaign?

I genuinely don’t get it.

The only answer I have to these questions is that you people must be either racist, sexist, homophobic, afraid of all countries other than America, hateful of all religions aside from your own, or a combination of the above.

If Im wrong please feel free to let me know.  And please give me real answers, not some bullshit about “All of that being made up by the left wing media”…which seriously guys….WTF.  That excuse is so old and based on no facts at all.

So until I get any information to change my views I will stand in solidarity with the Trump protesters.  He is not my president.

There Is Always Hope

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Ugh…. yes I’m annoyed to say, but somehow, hope always prevails.  Its the one thing that gets us through the hard times.  That little fucker that somehow keeps us all going…. even when some of us (myself included) would just wish it would go away so I could kill myself without regrets.  But nope.  That shit doesn’t fly.   There is that little engine that could living within us.

Honestly, hope is like the sun.    This spinning, raging, burning combustion.   From seemingly nowhere, nuclear fusion gives birth energy.   Its gravitational force pulls your soul into its orbit.  keeping it alive.  Keeping warm.   When all else is gone we somehow keep going, all thanks to hope.   Breathing life into a lifeless void.

hope1

Its been over a month since Ive last blogged.  I have been going through a lot.

Back in September I moved back home….ugh…

with my parents…..UUUUGGGHHHH

….IN OHIO.  KILL ME PLEASE!

So I was going through the normal things a 26 year old who moved back home would go through.  “Im a failure”.  “My life has been a waste”.   And then suddenly the election happened and I learned that half of America are raging hateful idiots who elected a man who looks like one of those puppets from the Land Of Confusion music video.

ITS GREAT TO BE BACK IN AMERICA PEOPLE…cough

However, I learned something as well.   People are not there for you.   You are the only person who can make your dreams come true.  Here I am.  26, with a college education.  I have lived around the world… and yet, I’m working in retail at American Eagle with a bunch of Republicans who think their cousin getting married is the highlight of their year…..

I stopped blogging I was so depressed.   I stopped trying to make friends here (although lets be honest, this is Ohio…I never clicked with anyone here anyways).   I could feel my anxiety coming back into the picture.   I was so depressed I just wanted to sleep all day every day.

but then….

hope2

I could feel it.   The burning.  The power.  The raging source of life that somehow manages to exist despite the world trying to constantly beat it down.

hope4

So, I decided to take life into my own hands.  I decided I was going to stop feeling like I wasn’t good enough.  Like I didn’t deserve happiness.   So, I did what any logical person would do:

hope5

I applied to Harvard, duh.

If I’m going to get my shit together and believe that I’m not a wasted life, well then I’m going to just have to believe that I’m one of the best.   Think of the opportunities this could lead to!  The people I could meet.  The doors that could open.  Im ready to be challenged.  To be the best I can be.  IM READY TO SET THIS FUCKING WORLD ON FIRE (metaphorically of course).

But seriously, for undergrad I went to a preppy little college in Los Angeles as a communications major where class would be canceled because the professor decided to go to the beach… and now I may be at Harvard. A real college.  Surrounded by the best and brightest in the world.   ….. wait…. do you know who I sound like?

hope6

And you know what?  Elle Woods is a fucking inspiration for the children so leave her the fuck alone!  She’s awesome!

And Im ready for her to pass the baton to me.  Its my turn to turn Harvard on its head and change the fucking world.

AND I SOOOOOOOOO HOPE THAT PEOPLE LOOK AT ME AND GO, “YOU GOT INTO HARVARD?”  SO I CAN RESPOND WITH:

hope7

So thats it people!   Life works in mysterious ways.   And sometimes we REALLY DO need to just believe in ourselves.   I mean hey, if were on the verge of giving up on life anyways whats the harm in giving it your all before you truly give up?

And remember when the dumb cunts in life try to bring you down just remember:
